STAY SAFE BOULDER SPRING 2020
Our Boulder Community Hero for this week is Devaki Murch. Devaki has helped with Boulder's Covid-19 response by creating a community specific website (staysafeboulder.com) with information for Boulder about Covid-19. I She also created an extensive community list that is currently being used to distribute masks. She organized a group of seamstresses to make masks and then found gloves and bags for the distribution. She also has coordinated with Waterpocket Distillery who has donated gallons of sanitizer for the community. Devaki is a great asset to our community with her "get 'er done" attitude. She has brought together unlikely partners for successful for-profit and nonprofit partnerships and has always supported diversity (age, fitness, experience) in many events including organized races. Lastly, Devaki started a nonprofit, Paradox Sports to integrate individuals with disabilities into mainstream human-powered sports and activities. Understanding and acknowledging individual needs to provide positive experiences and successful interactions is what makes Devaki a valued Utahn as well as a member of the outdoor community.

- The phrase "Out of the Box" is tired and cliche but it is the best way to describe how Devaki thinks. About everything. And boy does she think. She has the liveliest, most creative mind around. She revels in making connections, building networks, finding perfect partners, and solving problems. As we worked together on the Rendezvous, mind you she was in the sponsor role, I learned an incredible amount about organizing and structuring our complicated event, and about how to integrate innovative marketing ideas and technologies to make sure folks showed up. Hell, she helped me re-write our sponsor manual. Essentially she gave me a crash course in branding. Working with her improved our event.
- She is an early adopting techno saavy person. I totally envy this. She ain't scared of any of it! She may not be a millennial but she thinks like one in terms of technology and how to utilize it seamlessly in whatever it is that she is doing. And what a terrific photographer she is...
- She is immensely relate-able. She is interested in everyone and everything and can find common ground anywhere. People are drawn to her. She is cheerful, she listens, she evokes loyalty.
- Her energy level is intense--energizer bunny level. She is organized, she is a leader, she gets it done. I have watched her knock out high pressure projects time and again. No biggie.
- She is incredibly well-connected in the outdoor industry (which isn't the running industry but it is just next door so to speak). Walking the aisles of Outdoor Retailer with her which I have done for ten years is a trip. She seems to have worked with everyone in the building.
- Her connection to the outdoors/nature is deep, authentic and effortless. She is really active and does tons of different outdoor stuff, not to be rad, not to be cool, but because she likes it and it makes her feel good. I believe her upbringing in Hawaii is responsible for these tendencies.
- She is smart, positive and optimistic. She leads by example and brings fun with her wherever she goes.
